September 10 and 11 2010 the 7th edition of Delft Tattoo was held at the market square at the center of Delft.
Unfortunately this edition was shaded by the sudden death of Mr. Aad Baljeu, chairman of the Delft Tattoo foundation. A black page in the history of Delft Tattoo.
He was appropriately commemorated at the final of this tattoo.
Just like former editions also this tattoo tickets were nearly sold out. The audience enjoyed a wonderful tattoo with a great variety of high standard shows and music. The theme of last years’ edition was ‘65 years of Liberation’ presented by a joint performance of 100 musicians, vehicles of ‘Keep Them Rolling’ and a lot of figurants. At the same time images of the last period of the war and of the liberation were shown on the New Church.
The tattoo was completed by an impressive performance of “Conquest in Paradise”, Vangelis title song of the movie “1492”. It was performed by all musicians, including the “Male choir Orpheus” from Vlaardingen. A choir specially composed for this tattoo. The whole performance was completed by fireworks in front of and on the New Church.
We can look back at two of the most successful tattoo performances.
The visitors enjoyed it very much, measured by their reactions at the end of the tattoo weekend.
As a reward Delft Tattoo 2010 was elected “Tattoo of the year 2010” in February 2011.
